The Attitudes toward Suicide among Social Work Students in Korea
Jeon Eun-Byeol

Ko Jung-Yai
Abstract
This study examined the attitudes toward suicide and their predictors among Korean social work students. The sample consisted of 493 undergraduate social work students who completed social work field practicum. Descriptive analyses, T-tests, ANOVA, and hierarchical regression analyses were conducted using SPSS 25.0. The Results indicated that though almost half of the respondents agreed people have the right to take their own lives, most of them agreed that we should interfere with those at suicide risk. The results from the hierarchical regressions analyses indicated that those without religion, those who rated their mental health condition low, and those who have experienced suicidal ideation, plan, or attempts scored high on the ¡°acceptability¡± factor of the Korean version of the ATTS-Revised. In addition to these predictors, the suicides of celebrities and his or her close people including family members or friends were positively related with the higher scores on the ¡°understandability¡±factor. Men and those with bad mental health condition scored higher on the "tabooing" factor compared to their counterparts. Based on these results, suggestions were made to help develop educational strategies to improve the attitudes toward suicide among these future social workers.
